Sortie privée au marché PSU en français

Participer à une sortie au marché PSU tout en français avec votre animatrice française le samedi 6 octobre, à 11h.

Cette activité sera faite exclusivement en français — c’est le but! Si quelqu’un a un souci de compréhension,  il/elle saura poser la question à son animatrice, Lisa.

Lisa demandera aussi aux personnes présentes de venir avec une liste – écrite ou orale –  de ce qu’elles souhaitent acheter/ faire, et de l’exprimer verbalement avant de partir.

C’est gratuit, mais il faut que vous vous inscriviez ici pour reserver votre place. Nous suggérons une limite de 4 participants pour mieux parler ensemble. Nous nous rencontrons à l’entrée du musée PAM, du côté Park Avenue.  La visite dure une heure de 11h à midi.


Champs-Elysees Film Festival Oct. 19, 20, 21 at PSU

The Champs-Elysées Festival is a unique French and American independent film festival and is the biggest film festival in Paris.

Three treasures of contemporary independent French cinema will premier over three consecutive nights at the 5th Avenue Cinema on the PSU Campus.

Each film will be preceded by shorts and followed by a conversation led by Justine Lévêque, Artistic Director of the Festival.

Alliance members and PSU students will be admitted free. $5 for all others. No reservations, so get there early to get your seat. All films start at 7 pm.

Presented by Portland State University, the Alliance Francaise de Portland, and the Champs-Elysées Film Festival.

Bastille Day July 14 at Jamison Square

The West Coast’s largest Bastille Day celebration will take place on Saturday, July 14, from noon to 6:00 p.m. at Jamison Square in the Pearl. The Saturday festival is free and open to the public and has attracted as many 8,000 participants in years past.

12th Annual Waiters Race: The popular Portland Waiters Race returns to Bastille Day and will start at 2:00 pm. Racers will be competing for $2000 in prizes, mostly cash! Cheer them on as the waiters circle the square three times balancing glasses of water on a tray — it’s not easy! The winner combines the best time with the fewest spills. (Interested waiters can sign up online to register.)

L’Avenue de la cuisine: French-themed menu options will be plentiful from popular and unique restaurants including St Honoré Bakery, the Kasbah Moroccan Cafe, Olympia Provisions, Gauffre Belgian Waffles & Crêpes, and Ruby Jewel Ice Cream. The popular wine & beer garden in Jamison Square will feature specialty cocktails from diamond sponsor, Hardy Cognac. You’ll also enjoy refreshing beers and wines.

Air France Raffle: The Alliance and its event partner the French-American Chamber of Commerce are pleased to offer a raffle for two round-trip Main Cabin (Economy Class) tickets from Seattle to Europe on Air France. Click here for raffle tickets.

Live Music: The festival features French-themed music on the main stage throughout the day, including French cafe music from the Zéphyr trio, Ben Blechman Gypsy Jazz, Dixieland from the Mudtown Stompers, and French favorites from Merlin, a lively father-daughter accordion-fiddle duo.

Le Marché: Enjoy the wares of local arts & crafts vendors (including many importers of French products) and find a bargain at the enormous French book sale hosted by the Alliance Française.

Pour les enfants: Look for a wide range of children’s activities with special activities led by Portland Art Museum docents, facepainting, and more.

Pour tous: Enjoy the fencing demonstrations, then try it yourself with the masters from Northwest Fencing Center. Wander through the Concours de Deux-Chevaux on NW Johnson, a collection of vintage Citroens.

Jamison Square is located at 810 NW 11th Avenue at NW Johnson in the Pearl. The festival occupies the entire Square, known for its shady lawns and spacious fountain. Jamison Square can be reached by the Portland Streetcar A Loop and NS Lines, with stops at NW Johnson and NW 10th/NW 11th.

French Chanteur, Eric Vincent, Live at the Alliance!

Frenchman singer Eric Vincent has a special passion for taking his music to every corner of the globe. He has  performed in more than 140 countries!

Although his background is in classical music, Eric’s music encompasses many styles. His songs contain elements of jazz, folk, rock and rhythms reflecting his travels in Africa and the Caribbean. His music has a timeless quality  which identifies him as a singer in the best tradition of the chanson française.

His concerts delight audiences of all ages and appealing to a range from native French speakers to students of French to those who speak no French at all. He is often invited to return to universities and  high schools where his songs capture the attention of students for their universal themes and for the appealing music.

Over his long career, Eric’s music has been known for its tenderness, humor, and passion. He has shared the stage with many luminaries, from James Taylor to Georges Moustaki to Cheri Samba.

A Tribute to Charles Aznavour

Join Portland’s Parisian-born French Troubadour Eric John Kaiser for a musical retrospective of the late great Aznavour.

Eric John Kaiser plays tribute to France’s great singer, lyricist, actor, political activist and cultural monument: the unforgettable Charles Aznavour.

This evening of song will reflect on Aznavour’s 70-year career during which he recorded over 1,400 songs in eight languages, collaborating with Edith Piaf, Elton John, Serge Gainsbourg, Josh Groban, and Tom Jones. Be ready to join in and sing!

Parisian-born Eric John Kaiser, known as the French Troubadour, is a singer-songwriter reimagining American music through a French lens. Eric has released five albums recorded in Paris, Oregon and Québec, and has performed in France and throughout North America. He has been based in Portland since 2006.

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

Cette activité sera faite exclusivement en français — c’est le but! Si quelqu’un a un souci de compréhension,  il/elle saura poser la question à son animatrice Lisa Chafetz.

C’est important de noter qu’à ce marché de 3 novembre, on pourra acheter ses salades et petits légumes (concombre, kale….) en français et bénéficier d’une animation spéciale pour ce dernier jour.

Votre animatrice Lisa Chafetz demandera aussi aux personnes présentes de venir avec une liste orale de ce qu’elles souhaitent acheter/ faire, et de l’exprimer verbalement avant de partir.

C’est gratuit, mais il faut que vous vous inscriviez ici tout de suite pour reserver votre place. Il faut avoir une réponse pour jeudi 1er novembre dernier délai et un minimum requis de deux participants. Nous suggérons aussi une limite de 4 participants pour mieux parler ensemble. Membres de l’Alliance, SVP.

Nous nous rencontrons à l’ angle du musée d’art entre la 9th Ave et Jefferson St.  La visite dure une heure de 11h à midi.
