The nonprofit Alliance Française of Portland will partner with Multnomah Athletic Club and the Oregon Culinary Institute to hold the 6th Annual Concours de Tartes aux Fruits, a competition of the region’s top pastry chefs.
The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 8 at Multnomah Athletic Club, 1849 SW Salmon Street in Portland.
The event brings together the French tradition of a culinary concours (competition) and the opportunity to enjoy fruit tarts made by some of best pastry chefs in the region, many of whom trained in France and/or studied with French chefs pâtissiers.
Fruit tarts were chosen to star in this event because they are a delicious and spectacular way to present the fruits of the season. The participating chefs will number over 20 and will include contestants from Saint Honoré Boulangerie, Petite Provence, Fleur de Lis Bakery, Beaverton Bakery, Multnomah Athletic Club, Pix Pâtisserie, Wildwood Restaurant, Capers Café, Andina, Gluten Free Gem Bakery, and more.
The judges this year include three James Beard award winners: Philippe Boulot (Executive Chef at Multnomah Athletic Club), Ken Forkish (owner of Ken’s Artisan Bakery), and Janie Hibler, author of The Berry Bible, as well as returning judge Pascal Chureau (owner of Allium Restaurant in West Linn).
Guests will enjoy a sampling of the tarts, sparkling wines, and Virtue Cider, a European-style cider. The bounty will include Le Bistro Estate French-recipe premium ham and gourmet French cheeses including Beaumont de Savoie, Roquefort Société, Brie Le Châtelain, Margaux de Chèvre and Le Roulé herb and garlic cheese.
All-inclusive tickets for the general public are $35; tickets for Alliance Française and Multnomah Athletic Club members are $25. Reservations for the general public and Alliance members can be made online by clicking here or by phone at 503-223-8388 . MAC members should reserve directly with the club.
Celebrity chefs at the event will also feature book signings. Merci to food and beverage sponsors for this event, including Specialities, Inc., Lactalis American Group, Inc., Perrier & Nestlé Waters North America, and Virtue Cider.
